Top 5 WA Road Trips

At risk of sparking a huge public debate… we’re going to list our top 5 road trips to do in Western Australia.

To preface this, much like the majority of West Australians, we’re 4WD enthusiasts, we’re experts in all things CV joints and driveshaft repair related, so we’re looking at places that are off the beaten track.

But, if you have a different top 5, hit us up on our Facebook page to tell us!

So, in no particular order, here they are:

The Coral Coast – Perth to Exmouth

This trip will take you past some of WA’s most iconic and unique sights and experiences: the Pinnacles in Cervantes, swimming with the Abrolhos Islands sea lions, the Carnarvon Fruit Loop driving trail, spring wildflowers.

But the highlight of this trip, no doubt, swimming with humpback whales in Exmouth as they migrate in winter and there are amazing 4WD adventures through national parks and off-road attractions.

Land of the Giants – Perth to Pemberton

Our South West is paradise! This trip takes you to a forest of massive Karri trees and has some 4WD tracks including the Yeagarup Dunes near Pemberton and Bob’s Track from Karridale to Boranup Beach in Margaret River.

As well as the 4WD trails there are some spectacular walking trails within the Bibbulmun, Blackwood River, Yalgorup National Park, Ferguson Valley or take a luxury approach and visit some world-class food and wineries or truffle hunting in the region.

Gibb River Road – Kununurra to Derby

The Kimberley is a region like no other in the world, and this will take you to some of the most picturesque, secluded swimming spots, gorges and outback landscapes. Be sure to include the falls at Mitchell Plateau and the coastal Aboriginal settlement of Kalumburu in your itinerary.

It’s a remote route, so make sure you check the road conditions before you set off, and it can attract a bit of traffic in peak season.

The Holland Track – Hyden to Coolgardie

Take this route past some of the most amazing geological structures like the iconic Wave Rock, Sheoak Rock, Native Rocks, Wattle Rocks, Mount Holland, the commemorative Centenary Rocks and a seismic grid line caused by mining exploration. When you get to the Gnarlbine Rock you know you’re nearing Coolgardie.

The original ‘shortcut’ through from the South to the Goldfields, it’s still a rough ride, so make sure you’re prepared, self-sustaining and carefully consider whether you’re towing a campervan.

The Canning Stock Route – Halls Creek to Wiluna

This one is for experienced drivers and intrepid adventurers looking for the ultimate isolated outback adventure. Passing through three deserts, it’s got a reputation for being one of the wildest, harshest drives. But it delivers an experience like no other. It’ll take a few weeks; you’ll need a permit and thorough preparation is essential.
